I Think It May Be Worse Than ME

I was finally forced to convert to Windows Vista when I purchased a new laptop, and learned that "reverting" to XP would cost $150. I should have spent the money.

What a turd!

This the worst garbage Microsoft has released since Windows ME, with which I was unfortunately stuck for an unreasonably lengthy period of time during my broke days of the early 00's.

Vista is a clunky system hog that is designed as if users are utter dimwits. I hope that Windows 7 will be vastly improved. If not, it looks like it's time for me to learn Linux.

Yup. I admit it: I'm a masochist. Owning a PC is like buying an old car because you know you can work on it in your own garage (and it's cheaper than a fancy new car), but you still have an old car that you have to work on all the time.

Windows is absolutely infuriating, but with a lot of development offices using it, in the past you used to have to go with Windows just to be compatible.

But that might be changing now. So much fundraising stuff is done online now, and file formats like .docx are better at moving between operating systems. I've been using Linux for a long time, with Windows XP as an alternate boot for "legacy clients" and their software. Here's my conversion story: http://bottleworld.net/?p=142

The newer versions of Linux are very good -- especially check out ubuntu and Kubuntu -- and extremely free. You can try them out using a "bootable CD" that won't install anything.

Good luck!

Martin, thanks for the suggestions on linux. I may just have to catch up with the times one of these days. And yeah, I think your laptop can kick my laptop's a--! I'm glad it has no need.

F.A., but, what household object will I spend hours cursing at if I get a Mac? Watch out toaster.
