Both you and the U of Chicago crew did a great job with your presentations! Theirs dealt very much with process while I think yours was much more grounded in aesthetics. Both were important focuses, and both leave me a little concerned that I've got tough competition for a presentation spot next year!

My comment "High interest, low priority" had to do with NodeXL. Which falls under the phylum of "Neato-Cool!" but sadly has a learning curve that I'm not sure warrants the time investment. Matthias Shapiro shows what it can do in this Ignite vid at 4:20. Watch the whole vid though because I think you'll dig it.

Thank you so much for live blogging the conference. I wasn't able to be there this year, so it was very helpful to be able to follow along on your site.

My two cents on data viz: Although I can understand the "high interest, low priority" impression on a basic level, I feel that it is very short-sighted. Using good data visualization may take some time behind the scenes, but it enables researchers to quickly and clearly show everyone else (VPs, gift officers) how their insights contribute to an organization's overall fundraising efforts. That seems like a pretty high priority to me.

In your presentation, did you lay some Edward Tufte on them re: pie charts?

Mini campaigns is exactly the idea that has been brewing in my mind since I began fundraising a few years ago. Although I see how planning for a comprehensive campagin can be efficient, there's something to be said for establishing a competency in strategic planning that gets used consistently throughout the life of an organization, and not every decade when its time for another campaign. Good share, Amanda!
